Rocketry Project

Sub-team summary:

The Propulsion sub-team is responsible for designing, manufacturing and testing the rocket motors. Currently, the sub-team develops solid rocket motors that must be reusable, must have consistent performance and launch the rocket safely to the targeted altitude.

Position Description:

A Propulsion Engineer – Nozzle Designer will be expected to perform:

  • Analysis and design of rocket nozzle
  • CFD simulation of exhaust gases in the nozzle
  • Update computer analysis codes
  • Nozzle material selection and assessment of structural integrity
  • Data processing from rocket motor static tests
Preferred Skills:
  • Knowledge of the basic principles of multiphase, compressible and incompresssible flow, acoustics, thermodymamics, thermochemistry, mechanics and materials
  • Familiarity with CAD software (Solidworks)
  • Familiarity with CFD software (OpenFOAM, ANSYS Fluent, CFX)
  • Familiarity with computational frameworks (MATLAB, Python)
  • Experience with mechanical tools and materials
  • Ability to provide practical and reliable design solutions
  • Excellent organizational and communicational skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
