Rocketry Project

Sub-team Summary:

The Propulsion sub-team is responsible for designing, manufacturing and testing the rocket motors. Currently, the sub-team develops solid rocket motors that must be reusable, must have consistent performance and launch the rocket safely to the targeted altitude.

Position Description:

A Rocket Motor Performance Engineer will be expected to perform:

  • Sizing and trade study calculations for solid rocket motor grain design
  • Solid rocket motor performance analysis and prediction
  • Rocket performance analysis
  • Update computer analysis codes
  • Research on testing methods
  • Data processing from rocket motor static tests

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of the basic principles of thermodynamics, thermochemistry, fluid dynamics, classical mechanics, numerical analysis
  • Familiarity with high temperature – combustion systems
  • Familiarity with computational frameworks (MATLAB, Python)
  • Experience with mechanical tools and materials
  • Ability to provide practical and reliable design solutions
  • Excellent organizational and communicational skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
