
Rocketry Project
Sub-team Summary:
The Propulsion sub-team is responsible for designing, manufacturing and testing the rocket motors. Currently, the sub-team develops solid rocket motors that must be reusable, must have repeatable performance and launch the rocket safely to the targeted altitude.
Position Description:
A Propulsion Structural Engineer will be expected to perform:
- Design and analysis of associated components and structures
- Assess the structural integrity and failure using FEM analysis
- Research on solid rocket motor assembly and sealing
- Research on combustion chamber proof and burst pressure testing
- Update computer analysis codes
- Data processing from rocket motor static tests
Preferred Skills:
- Knowledge of the basic principles of solid mechanics, the strength of materials, the theory of FEM and analytical methods in structural analysis
- Familiarity with CAD software (Solidworks)
- Familiarity with mechanical seals (O-rings, etc.)
- Experience in computational frameworks (MATLAB, Python)
- Experience with mechanical tools and materials
- Ability to provide practical and reliable design solutions
- Excellent organizational and communicational skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team
- Excellent knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
