
Rocketry Project
Sub-team Summary:
The Propulsion sub-team is responsible for designing, manufacturing and testing the rocket motors. Currently, the sub-team develops solid rocket motors that must be reusable, must have consistent performance and launch the rocket safely to the targeted altitude.
Position Description:
A Propulsion Thermal Engineer will be expected to perform:
- Design and manufacturing of the thermal insulation and liner for the solid rocket motor
- Thermal analysis of the motor components
- Update computer analysis codes
- Research on new materials for this application
- Research on testing methods
- Data processing from rocket motor static tests
Preferred Skills:
- Knowledge of the basic principles of heat transfer, polymeric and composite materials, thermodynamics, thermochemistry, fluid dynamics and analytical methods in thermal analysis
- Familiarity with high temperature – combustion systems
- Familiarity with computational frameworks (MATLAB, Python)
- Experience with mechanical tools and materials
- Ability to provide practical and reliable design solutions
- Excellent organizational and communicational skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team
- Excellent knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
