Rocketry Project

Sub-team Summary:

The Safety sub-team is responsible for implementing and enforcing safety rules in the fields of High-Power Rocketry. Part of the rules is set by the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association), TRA (Tripoli Rocketry Association) and SAC (Spaceport America Cup). The rest are general laboratory rules as well as specific rules set out in the Material Safety Data Sheet.

Position Description:

The Safety Manager is responsible for:

  • Being fully aware of the safety rules set by the aforementioned organizations
  • Keeping team members informed about security regulations
  • Ongoing monitoring of the work taking place in the team laboratories (manufacture of solid propellant, static engine test, manufacture with composite materials, use of mechanical equipment and tools)
  • Following safety rules when conducting project flights
  • Preparing hazard analysis and risk assessment for flights as well as for work on team’s laboratories
  • Taking immediate action in cases of non-compliance with safety rules
  • Supervising all facilities, equipment, maintenance and disposal of substances
Preferred Skills:
  • Knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices
  • Experience in writing reports
  • Ability to provide practical and reliable solutions
  • Excellent organizational and communicational skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
