With the initiative of some Mechanical Engineering students, ASAT’s first department is created, focused on developing Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) for the global competition Air Cargo Challenge.

The Rocketry Department marks ASAT’s expansion in the field of rocketry, as the new department is involved with developing experimental rockets.

The Aeronautics Department participates for the first time in a worldwide competition with the UAV Nephele II, which gets the 12th place in the global ranking. 

The second participation of the Aeronautics Department in the ACC happens with 2 UAVs (Aurora και Nephele III), which are ranked 10th and 12th, while managing to get the first positions among all Balcan teams.

The Rocketry Department successfully launches its first subscale rockets, H1 and H2.

The Aeronautics Department starts designing the R&D project Phoenix, a solar powered UAV with the aim of detecting wildfires in forest areas.

The first participation of the Rocketry Department in a global competition unfortunately takes place virtually due to the COVID-19, however the team still manages to win the 20th place out of the 76 teams. 

The Rocketry Department launches the rocket Selene, making ASAT the first Greek student team to have launched a high power rocket.

The Rocketry Department becomes the first greek student team to have launches a rocket during the largest international rocketry competition, which takes place in New Mexico, USA. The team received positive comments regarding its technical expertise, as well as the safe recovery of the rocket Andromeda.

A great success for the Aeronautics Department was its participation in the first Air Cargo Challenge after the period of the COVID-19 pandemic, where it competed with the UAV Aeolus and managed to win the 9th position in the global ranking.
